E.D.I.T.H. will save your life. EDITH stands for Exit Drills In The Home. Every child who attends school can tell you exactly what they do when there is a fire drill in school in detail. What do you think they would say if asked what to do if there is a fire in the home.
Fire drills in the home each month will teach the whole family what to do if there is a fire in the home. Have a meeting place in front of the home in a well lit area. Knowing two ways out of every room is necessary in case the primary exit is blocked. Practicing these drills at different times of day and night is important because if there is a fire late at night leaving the house and meeting at the designated place will seem almost routine.
Remember to stay out of the house once you have gotten out. Do not go back in under any circumstances. Many deaths occur because someone went back in to try to save a family member or a pet. Fire doubles in size every minute, so get out and stay out. The fire department will do everything possible to save the lives of anyone who is trapped.
If you need any information pertaining to fire prevention or if you would like to schedule a fire prevention program or a fire house tour for your group or organization, call the fire hall and leave a message on our answering machine. A fire company officer will return your call. You can reach us 717-299-3163.
